Teens & Adults: Week 5

Welcome to week 5

Day 1

  • Learn 2 new pieces for the 40 piece challenge. Add them to the list.
  • Learn Hanon pattern #5.
  • Watch and listen to the Hanon exercise video #5.
  • Practice the right hand of Hanon exercise #5. Use the metronome @60 or less.
  • Complete theory lesson 5, 1 page.
  • Choose 1 piece to review. Follow the diagram to find out if you REALLY know the piece.
  • Practice your chosen piece.

Day 2


  • Practice Hanon exercise #5, left hand only. Use the metronome @60 or less.
  • Learn 2 new pieces for the 40 piece challenge. Add them to the list.
  • Complete theory lesson 5, 1 page.
  • How Does Music Affect Your Brain?
  • What is your chosen review piece? Practice it until you can answer YES to at least one of the questions on the chart.

Day 3

  • Practice Hanon exercise #5 hands together. Use the metronome @60 or less.
  • Learn 2 new pieces for the 40 piece challenge. Add them to the list.
  • Music History. Read and watch videos for PART FOUR of episode 12 – Go Baroque. Scroll down to part four.
  • Has your review piece improved? Keep working on it!

Day 4

  • Practice Hanon exercise #5 hands together. Use the metronome. You should not allow yourself to play mistakes!
  • Learn 2 new pieces for the 40 piece challenge. Add them to the list.
  • Can you learn and memorize this piece today? Watch a performance of John Cage’s 4’33”.
  • You should still be working on your “new” review piece. Can you answer yes to one of the questions?

Day 5

  • Hanon exercise #5 should be performance ready today. Work towards that goal.
  • Play all the pieces you learned for the 40 piece challenge.
